״Art Curators" - 2016

In honor of 60 years of Ashdod a photo exhibition of artists and photographers from the shopping center and market in Bet, or as we call it "shuk" has been created. This is the first shuk in the city with a "taste of the old country", a colorful and vibrant market that takes us back years to the time when Ashdod was just beginning, and everyone knew everyone. 

Towards the 60 year celebrations for the city, the dream has come true. Dozens of store owners from the Bet center were photographed by 14 photographers from Ashdod. The photos that were enlarged were chosen by the store owners themselves. 

The decision to make black and white photos derived from the wonderful colorfulness of the shuk and its stores. This emphasizes the contrast between the colors and the black and white, and also gives the pictures a sense of old times, before there were colored pictures and smartphones, which have made nearly anyone a photographer.

The quality of a shuk is measured by a variety of flavors and smells, and of course the relatively low prices. Here, thanks to this exhibition, other angles are also exposed: the beauty of hidden details, unseen corners and fascinating characters.

The cooperation between photographers and store owners created a social-artistic project that has created a cultural diversity which can enable and give it.
